When Runners Need Therapy

Therapy For Runners
Injuries must be understood and treated according to their specific needs. The doctor and or therapist must deal with diagnosis, and the underlying causes. Fascia adhesions are commonly the most missed injuries; advances in fascia research has made way for Stecco Method Fascial Manipulation which makes treating injuries very efficient and effective. And behold, I just happen to have the Level III Stecco FM diploma. Very proud.
Treatment may require multiple modes and steps in recovery. There is usually no magic modality. Instead, combinations of therapy strategies are usually indicated.
The athlete should be able to report their history from way back. The doctor and or therapist would assess and diagnose the pain, then reason out the cause. This would include but not be limited to the consideration of old injuries and surgeries, and having the ability to detect and correct errors in the running technique.
Regarding massage, sports massage should be specific to a situation:
A pre-event massage should be brisk and should wake up the muscle and nerve activity.
A post-event massage should encourage relaxation and stimulate circulation to and from muscles.
Therapeutic sports massages should reduce fascia adhesions, mobilize scar tissue, stimulate healing of inflamed tissues, and relax muscle tension and spasms.
Therapeutic stretching is commonly done in conjunction with a sports massage and should be done when the muscles are warmed up through massage, activity, or even a warm shower.
Your sports injury team should provide so many services including but not limited to:
Taping ankles and other joints
Chiropractic joint adjustments
Fascia Manipulation
Sports nutrition (especially hydration)
